WHAT IS CBD OIL?
CBD is short for cannabidiol and is an oil extracted from Cannabis Sativa, a plant that has existed for over 60 million years.
In the Cannabis plant we find almost 500 natural substances, 113 of which are called cannabinoids. CBD account for up to 40 % of the extracts from the cannabis plant.
MELS Premium CBD oils are NOT psychoactive as they only have trace elements of THC, the substance that gives you the feeling of being “high”. CBD oil allows you to get all the medical benefits of cannabis, without feeling intoxicated.
So far, preliminary studies have indicated that CBD (often with the help of other cannabionoids such as CBD, CBDA, CBG / CBGA) can help stimulate appetite, relieve pain and inflammation, reduce nausea, ease anxiety, improve sleep quality, fight viruses and viral infections, relieve muscle spasms and give a general feeling of well-being in the body.
HOW TO USE MELS CBD OIL?
It should be dripped under the tongue and kept there for a few minutes. That way the CBD is absorbed through the mucous membranes in the oral cavity and directly into the blood stream. Wait eating and drinking at least 20 minutes after taking the oil.
WHAT ARE CANNABINOIDS?
Cannabinoids are natural chemical compounds found in some plants and some herbs. The highest concentration is found in the plant Cannabis Sativa. The cannabinoids interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system.
We have three types of cannabinoids:
1. Phytocannabinoids (from plants and herbs)
2. Endocannabinoids (produced by the body itself)
3. Synthetic cannabinoids (manufactured in the laboratory)
WHAT ARE ENDOCANNABINOIDS?
Endocannabinoids are naturally occurring cannabinoids within the body, abundant in the brain and throughout the central nervous system. Endo (meaning inside the body) and cannabinoid (the active ingredient of cannabis to which the receptors react)
The two main endocannabinoids, Anandamide and 2-AG, are synthesized from fatty acids in the body on demand. These molecules work as neurotransmitters in brain and are involved in a variety of physiological processes, including appetite, pain control, mood and memory.
Ananda is interestingly Sanskrit for pleasure, joy and happiness.
Did you know that breast milk is packed of endocannabinoids that promote appetite and calmness in breast fed infants?
WHAT IS THE ENDOCANNABINOID SYSTEM?
Endocannabinoids, and phytocannabinoids (CBD), interact with the bodys Endocannabinoid System (ESC). The ESC consists of cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2), present all over the body in tissues like the brain, gastrointestinal tract, reproductive organs, spleen, arteries and even the heart. Some like to call it the “master regulatory system” as it seems to be everywhere and do “everything”.
The main job of the ESC is to maintain homeostasis, which means to help the body self-regulate and respond adequately to things like pain, inflammation, anxiety and stress.
There is even scientific evidence that your endocannabinoid system is “switched on” when you need protection, for instance when certain diseases strike, such as cancer, neuropathic and inflammatory pain, MS, intestinal disorders, PTSD, traumatic brain injury, hemorrhagic, septic and cardiogenic shock, hypertension , atherosclerosis and Parkinson´s disease. In these conditions, the endocannabinoids can lessen the negative effects by working to maintain homeostasis in the body.
HOW DOES CBD OIL WORK?
CBD oil increase the effectiveness of the Endocannabinoid System by indirectly influencing the CB1 and CB2 receptors.
Because of its nature, CBD oil has the capacity to treat many different symptoms and conditions. This means that while you may be taking CBD for one specific reason, you may experience great health benefits in other areas as a result of this natural medicine.
But keep in mind that as with most natural medicines, no one size fits all. We all have a unique endocannabinoid system and therefore will respond differently to the intake of CBD oil.
WHAT IS CANNABIS SATIVA?
Cannabis Sativa is the botanical name of the plant species. There are several types of Cannabis Sativa, such as marijuana and industrial hemp. Marijuana is typically high in THC, while industrial hemp, which is used making MELS CBD oil, is very high in Cannabidiol (CBD)
WHAT IS MEDICAL CANNABIS?
Medical cannabis came to the scene in 1839 after an Irish doctor named William Brooke O’Shaughnessy traveled to India where he learned to use cannabis as medicine for his patients.
Medical cannabis was used until the 1930s used as medicine for everything from epilepsy and pain relief to “mood disorders”.
It is well known that Queen Victoria used cannabis to relieve her menstrual cramps. Her private doctor, Sir Russel Reyndols, wrote in 1890 that ” when pure and administered carefully, cannabis is one of the most valuable medicines we possess.”
IS HEMP OIL THE SAME AS CBD OIL?
The answer is no.
Hemp oil is made from the seeds of the Cannabis plant and contains none of the cannabinoids THC or CBD. It is possible there are trace elements of CBD in the hemp seeds, but since the hemp oil is pressed there will be no significant amount of CBD left.
MELS Premium CBD oil, on the other hand, has a natural content of terpenes, flavonoids, cannabinoids and other beneficial plant nutrients from the whole plant.
WHAT IS THC?
THC is the abbreviation for tetrahydrocannabinol which is the psychoactive substance in cannabis. MELS Premium CBD oil only contains trace amounts of THC (0,2%) and will NOT make you “high”.
WHY DOES MELS PREMIUM USE SUPERCRITICAL CO2 EXTRACTION?
The cannabis plants used to make make MELS Premium CBD oil goes through a very careful separation process to ensure not loosing any of the medicinal substances. Supercritical CO2 extraction is the purest and most costly method of excreting cannabinoids. The end result is a pure highly concentrated full spectred CBD oil.
Additionally, because MELS CBD oil is made from whole organic plants without any additives, it is easier and safer for the body to digest and utilize.
WHAT DOES FULL SPECTRUM CBD OIL MEANS?
A full spectrum CBD oil contains a wide range of cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids found in the cannabis plant. CBD oil gives a much better therapeutic effect when all these active substances work together. This is called the Entourage Effect. The Entourage Effect was coined in 1999 as a way to explain how chemicals can work synergistically to enhance the effect.
Therefore, it is recommended that a good quality CBD oil should also contain a low amount of THC. In all MELS Premium CBD oils we have 0.2% content of THC.
HOW MUCH SHOULD I TAKE?
Finding the correct dose of CBD for a particular patient is not an easy task, even for experts, because we each have our own unique endocannabinoid system that responds differently to CBD oil. You may need to experiment a little bit until you find the right dose for you.
It is often helpful to keep a log of CBD concentration, doses and timing so that you can understand what is working best for your symptoms. If you are unsure whether to choose between 5%, 10% or 20% we recommend starting with 5% or 10% the first time you take CBD. This is because the bodys cannabinoid receptors normally need time to become activated and fully utilize all the cannabinoids introduced. Also keep in mind that a heavier person normally needs a stronger concentration that a slim person.
An example of a dosing strategy could be as follows:
Week 1: 1 drop 3 x per day
Week 2: 2 drops 3 x per day
Week 3: 3 drops 3 x per day
DO I GET THE BEST EFFECT BY TAKING A LOT OF CBD AT ONCE?
No, the body can only absorb what your receptors can absorb, so we recommend starting small and gradually increasing over the next few days and weeks until you get the desired effect.
HOW DO I KNOW CBD OIL WORKS ON ME?
Since we all have an unique endocannabionoid system, the effect will also vary from person to person. The most frequent feedback we receive in the beginning is that sleep gets deeper, anxiety goes down and pain becomes manageable. Increased energy is also a typical symptom of the oil working.
Effects of CBD oil can be felt as soon as 30 minutes post-consumption, whereas long-term benefits are typically seen after 1-2 weeks of consistent use. If you are not feeling the effects, you should increase the dosage day by day until you do feel the benefits.
When it comes to dosage we have identified three dose rangers as guidance for different conditions;
Micro dose: 5 – 25 mg CBD per day. Can be effective for sleep, headaches, mood swings, nausea, PTSD, stress and metabolic disorder.
Standard dose: 20 – 100 mg CBD per day. Has been shown to be effective for chronic pain, inflammation, autoimmune disorders, Lyme disease, anxiety, depression, arthritis, some mental disorders, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, inflammatory bowel syndrome, autism and weight loss.
Macro dose: 50 – 800 mg CBD per day. Doses at this level are often used to treat cancer, epilepsi, seizure disorders, liver disease, and other severe life-threatening conditions.
ARE THERE SIDE EFFECTS FROM CBD USE?
CBD is considered extremely safe to consume and no deaths have been reported. Research shows that doses of up 1,500 mg / day of CBD seem to be well tolerated in humans.
Some reported side effects include dry mouth, upset stomach the first couple of days, lowered blood pressure, light headedness, and drowsiness. This will pass.
CAN I DRIVE A CAR AND OPERATE MACHINES WHEN I USE CBD OIL?
Yes. You will not experience any intoxication when consuming MELS Premium CBD oil.
WHY ARE CBD OILS STILL ILLEGAL IN SOME COUNTRIES?
Prohibition of CBD is a political decision and not based on science. When your endocannabinoid system is not working properly there is no pharmaceutical medication that can address this dysfunction. The cannabis plant is a natural medicine that can help balance the endocannabinoid system for a number of medical conditions. Therefore, the authorities must recognize CBD as legitimate medicine.
WHAT IS THE BIO-AVAILABILITY OF MELS PREMIUM CBD OILS?
MELS CBD oil has bio uptake up to 90% depending on how long it is under the tongue. In comparison CBD Capsules have a bio uptake of approximately 6% to 10%.
SHOULD I TAKE BREAKS FROM THE CBD OIL?
As with many natural medicines, it is recommended to take a short break from CBD from time to time. It is believed that the cannabinoid receptors become re-sensitized and require less CBD to be activated.
IF I HAVE A JOB WHERE I HAVE TO DELIVER URINE TESTS, WILL I TEST POSITIVE FOR THC?
Mels Premium Oil has less than 0.2% THC which meets EU guidelines. But since our oil has trace elements of THC, we DO NOT recommend using our oil if you workplace require you to give an urine sample.
CHILDREN / PREGNANCY / LACTATING / USE OF CBD OIL?
We cannot, due to lack of studies, recommend the use of CBD Oil for children, pregnant or breast-feeding. But we find it very exciting to read about children who benefit from CBD oil.
CAN I OVERDOSE IN CBD?
No, CBD is considered harmless and zero chance of overdosing. In fact, taking more drops during the morning or night, depending on when there is more discomfort, can be very beneficial. There is a difference between taking two drops three times a day, or taking three drops twice a day. You can ”play around” and take the drops according to your personal preference and schedule.
CAN I TAKE MEDICINE AT THE SAME TIME I TAKE CBD OIL?
CBD can potentially interact with certain pharmaceuticals, decreasing or increasing their effect by inhibiting the activity of cytochrome P450, a family of liver enzymes. On the other hand CBD is popular amongst cancer patients who may be experiencing negative symptoms and side effects from harsh cancer treatments such as radiation.
Speak to your medical doctor if you are unsure.
CAN I DRINK ALCOHOL WHEN I TAKE CBD OIL?
It is not recommended to consume alcohol while using cannabis-based products. The combination of alcohol and cannabinoids can cause dizziness, drowsiness, and impaired judgement.
We recommend taking CBD on an empty stomach outside of food and drink.
CAN I BECOME ADDICTED TO CBD OIL?
No, CBD is NOT addictive and you can quit at any time.
WHY IS SOMETIMES THE COLOR / TASTE DIFFERENT FROM OIL TO OIL?
This has to do with the variety of terpenes in a full spectrum oils. MELS Premium only deal with freshly made oils from plants which means the batches of raw material (CBD extract) can vary slightly in flavor and appearance. We do our best to keep the product consistent, but there are times when the color and taste will be slightly different from your last bottle.
What we do guarantee, is the content of CBD and natural Cannabinoids. MELS Premium CBD oils are third party lab tested for potency and ingredient content. Write to us if you want to read the report.
WHAT ARE TERPENES?
Terpenes (also called terpenoids) are the essential oils that exist in the cannabis plant. These oils give CBD the odor, color and flavor.
Cannabinoids and terpenes work synergistically to provide therapeutic effects, (The Entourage Effect). An example of a very important terpenoid is limonene. Limonene has potent anti-depressant and anti-anxiety qualities, as well as anti-tumor effects.
WHY IS MELS PREMIUM CBD MIXED WITH MCT OIL?
Cannabis oil is very concentrated and difficult to dispense, therefore, a base oil is added.
MELS has chosen MCT (medium-chain triglycerides) which make up 60% of the total fat content in coconut oil. MCT oil is unique for its ability to support the metabolism, heart, and a healthy brain.
In addition MCT oil increases the CBD absorption through the small intestine. This strongly increase the bio-availability of CBD.
MCT helps improves the taste of the CBD oil. Hemp oil, which many brands use, can taste very unpleasant.
